11 Day Rome, Assisi and Passion Play

OBERAMMERGAU PASSION PLAY 2022

DAY 01: NORTH AMERICA / ITALY.  Depart North America aboard our trans- Atlantic flight.  Dinner and breakfast will be served aloft.

DAY 02:  ARRIVE ROME.   After arrival in Rome we will be picked up and transferred from airport to hotel. Enjoy a panoramic visit of the city on our way to the hotel.  Dinner and overnight at our hotel.  

DAY 03: ROME.  This morning our sightseeing will include Moses' Fountain, Roman Forum, Arch of Titus, the Coliseum - site of early Christian martyrdom - and Mamertine Prison, possibly the final place of confinement of the Apostle Paul before his execution.  We then visit Capitoline Hill, St. Peter in Chains, the Pantheon and Quirinale Palace (outside). Return to our hotel for time at leisure.  Dinner on our own tonight.

DAY 04: ROME / ASSISI.  A tour of TheSevenChurches wasjustre-born andsuddenlybecame one ofthemost important events celebrated by the Christian Community. Through the years, however, pilgrims lost interest in all seven churches and only chose to visit the Four Basilicas of Rome.  It was not until the Jubilee 2000 that Pope John Paul IIencouraged Christian pilgrims to resume the visit of all seven churches as part of their spiritual journey. Christians now from all corners of the earth come to Rome to follow in the steps of Saint Philip. The Seven churches were all built under Emperor Constantine marking the presence of the first Christians in Rome. They comprise: Saint Peter’s, Saint John in Lateran, Saint Mary Major, Saint Paul Outside the Walls, Saint Laurence Outside the Walls, The Holy Cross Church, the Church of the Catacombs of Saint Sebastian and the ancient Appian Way. Finally, it is fitting to visit the Millennium Church which was commissioned by Pope John Paul II to celebrate Jubilee 2000.   This evening we drive to Assisi for dinner and overnight.

DAY 05: ASSISI / ROME.   Today we visit the Tomb of St. Francis and the Portiuncula where the great Franciscan family has its origins.  We will also see the relics of St. Clare, as well as her incorrupt body.  This afternoon we return to Rome.   Dinner and overnight at our hotel in Rome.

DAY 06: ROME.   Early morning transfer to the Vatican to attend the weekly Papal Audience.  After which we visit the Vatican City which includes the Museum, the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Square, Church of St. Peter, and the Basilica of St. Paul.  This afternoon is for activities of your own. Return to our hotel for dinner and overnight.  

DAY 07: ROME.  Today is a full day of leisure for activities of your own.  Overnight at our hotel.

DAY 08: ROME / MUNICH.  Transfer to the airport for your flight to Munich, Germany.  Upon arrival we are met and drive to Linderhoff. and Linderhoffs Castle - built by mad King Ludwig - a dazzling castle set high in the Bavarian Alps. Then on to Oberammergau, home of the world-famous Passion Play which is performed once every ten years. Dinner and overnight. 

DAY 09:  PASSION PLAY.   The entire day is devoted to attending a performance of the world famous Passion Play which is held once every ten years in this charming small Bavarian village.  Dinner and overnight.

DAY 10: OBERAMMERGAU / MUNICH.  This morning we return to Munich. Our sightseeing tour of Munich includes the gothic Rathdus (town hall) with its famous glockenspiel, the awesome twin-spired Frauenkirche, Marienplatz, imperial residence Alte Pinakothec and other principle places of interest.  Dinner and overnight at our hotel.

DAY 11:  MUNICH / NORTH AMERICA.  After breakfast we will transfer to the airport for our return the United States of America.  The end of a most enjoyable journey.
